ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The aortic root is an area of innovation where in recent years we have seen developments at pace such as valve-sparing solutions, less invasive surgery and TAVI. In spite of these developments, however, most patients do not have repairable valves and require a form of replacement. Importantly, some patients have a small aortic annulus and are at risk of patient-prosthetic mismatch which profoundly affects survival and quality of life. In addition, the protheses used in ‘main-stream’ cardiac surgery, which often require mandatory anti-coagulation, may put restrictions on the patients lifestyle.
These issues affect all ages but are particularly relevant in young and middle-aged adults who face decades of life with these problems. This 1-day masterclass focuses on these specific situations and explores bespoke solutions that often not adequately addressed as part of the cardiac surgical training.
The masterclass brings together surgical experts from around the world to provide lectures and hands-on sessions on advanced techniques for aortic valve replacement.
The course organisers aim to use novel techniques to improve the training experience itself, as well as accessibility to the course:
